The project “ePA Informs” (2026)
Objective: To develop a graphical decision aid that informs citizens about differentiated ways of using the national electronic patient record (ePA) in Germany, including aspects related to data protection.
A rapid review will be conducted to collect evidence on the consequences of implementing patient records (e.g., patient-accessible electronic health records) based on methodologically sound review articles from the international scientific literature. The findings will be analyzed in terms of their relevance to the ePA in Germany.
The identified potential consequences of the ePA will be integrated into an expert workshop. The workshop’s methodology aims to assess usage decisions and to develop decision trees designed to reduce uncertainty in these decision-making contexts.
The interim results will be piloted and evaluated through online user testing as part of the tool’s development process.
